One Missing Tooth? Single-Tooth Valplast Dentures, Costs and Honest Alternatives

"A single-tooth Valplast is the quickest and cheapest way to fill one gap without metal. It is also not right for everyone. Here is how to tell, with real 2026 prices."

The usual story

Someone loses a front tooth. Maybe it cracked on an olive pip, maybe a dentist had to take it out after an infection. There is a wedding, or a job interview, or just the next family photo, and they want the gap gone.

A single-tooth Valplast is often the answer. It is also the thing we talk people out of more than you might expect. This guide covers both sides.

What a single-tooth Valplast actually is

It is a small removable partial denture made from flexible nylon instead of hard acrylic. One replacement tooth sits on a thin pink base, and two soft gum-coloured arms hug the teeth on either side of the gap. There is no metal anywhere.

You push it in with your fingers and it clicks into place. You take it out to clean it and to sleep.

Because the clasps are pink rather than wire, most people cannot see them when you talk. That is the main reason people choose it.

Who it suits

  • Front-tooth gaps. This is where the no-metal look matters most.
  • People waiting for an implant. Implants need months of healing. A Valplast fills the gap in the meantime.
  • People who are not ready to drill healthy teeth. A bridge needs the teeth on both sides cut down for crowns. A Valplast leaves them alone.
  • Tight budgets. It costs a fraction of a bridge or implant.

Who it does not suit

This part matters. We would rather tell you now than have you come back unhappy.

If the teeth next to the gap are short, worn or leaning, the clasps have nothing to grip, and the denture will feel loose from day one. A small chrome or acrylic partial may hold better.

If you grind your teeth hard or the gap is at the back where you do most of your chewing, the nylon base can flex more than you would like.

Valplast is also harder to adjust later than acrylic. Adding a second tooth or relining it is possible but fiddly, and sometimes a remake is the sensible option. If you think you may lose more teeth soon, tell us. An acrylic partial is easier to add to.

Getting it done

Most single-tooth Valplast partials take two visits plus lab time.

  1. Assessment and moulds. We check the teeth either side of the gap, take impressions and match the gum and tooth shade. About 45 minutes.
  2. Lab work. We make it in our own lab on Winifred Street.
  3. Fit. We seat it, check your bite and show you how to put it in and take it out. Most people get the hang of it in five minutes.

Expect it to feel bulky for a few days. Your tongue will keep finding it. By the end of the first week most people stop noticing.

Looking after it

Take it out at night and keep it in water or a denture soak. Nylon can warp if it dries out or goes in hot water, so no boiling water and no dishwasher.

Brush it gently with a soft brush and mild soap. Regular toothpaste is a bit too abrasive for the nylon over time.

If the clasps start to feel loose after a year or two, bring it in. Sometimes we can tighten the fit. Sometimes the honest answer is that it is time for a new one.

Paying for it

Private health extras usually cover partial dentures under major dental, with a rebate that depends on your fund and level of cover. We claim on the spot through HICAPS so you only pay the gap.

DVA Gold Card holders are covered for clinically necessary dentures. If you have a Victorian Denture Scheme voucher, bring it to your assessment and we will tell you which materials it covers before any work starts.

Next step

If you have one tooth missing, or about to come out, book an assessment. We will look at the teeth either side of the gap and tell you plainly whether a Valplast will hold well, or whether something else would serve you better.
